Jun. 2--A piece of Dallas' classic architecture is making a reappearance after decades under wraps.
Work crews renovating downtown's landmark Mercantile National Bank tower have uncovered the skyscraper's original art moderne facade.
The carved limestone and glass exterior on the lower floors of the 63-year-old tower at Main and Ervay streets was covered up by renovations in the 1950s and 1960s.
When construction workers pulled off the smoked glass and aluminum panels that were added to the building, the original decorative stone and tall glass windows were intact underneath.
