Jun. 2--The slaying by a unit of U.S. Marines of two dozen Iraqi civilians in the western Iraqi town of Haditha is already being called the My Lai of the Iraq war. There are distressing similarities. Like that massacre in Vietnam by U.S. Army troops, the Haditha killings appear to have involved the unjustified killing of innocent civilians. And as at My Lai, the stench of a cover-up hangs over the crime. What's beyond dispute, affirmed by military investigators, is that the massacre occurred last Nov. 19 and was carried out by Marines, some of whom will likely face criminal charges, including murder.
