LOS ANGELES - Can Pony's newest owner breathe new life into the struggling athletic brand?
Sharp Gain Profits Ltd., a division of Hong Kong-based Symphony Holdings, purchased Pony from Global Brand Marketing Inc. on April 14, and is joining forces with Infinity Associates to run the brand, according to a statement released last week. The pair is not new to the footwear industry - after Converse declared bankruptcy in 2001, the companies participated in the buyout of that brand. (Converse was later sold to Nike in 2003.) And last November, the two companies, along with Perseus, acquired apparel brand Haggar for $212 million.
