The two title questions, a paraphrase of a pithy two-word Talmudic aphorism (respect ... suspect) summarize the dilemmas we face in evaluating evidence from what is essentially a collection of case reports and case series reports. But the question with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS): what is a case?
Is MCS a validatable rubric for describing real medical conditions in real patients? Can exposure to one chemical mixture for certain individuals trigger varying types of illness following exposure to many other chemical mixtures?
