Jun. 2--Intense sunshine and low humidity on a picturesque plateau just south of Lake Mathews create a perfect incubator for young roses and snapdragons.
Favorable weather is a major reason why Ken Altman purchased 420 acres in that part of Riverside County for the future expansion of Vista-based Altman Specialty Plants, a leading producer of flowering annuals and perennials.
"I looked five years to find a piece of land large enough and flat enough in an environment where we could grow our kind of plants," Altman said.
