Irefer to Northumberland County Council's decision to cease to use rail as a supported mode of transport for Berwick 16 to 19-year-olds attending college in Newcastle. The committee paper presented to the executive meeting on May 30 failed to mention the difference in journey time between train and bus.
The train from Berwick to Newcastle takes 42 minutes, while the bus takes 2 hours 12 minutes. The extra cost of rail travel is around pounds 7 per day, but saves three hours travelling time.
