Jun. 4--CANON CITY - While temperatures soared in the mid-90s and gusty winds buffeted them, two rescue workers calmly kept vigil with a despondent man who scaled 63 feet of a cellular phone tower Saturday afternoon.
Rescue workers were called to the cell phone tower on Temple Canyon Road in the southwestern Canon City neighborhood of Dawson Ranch about 2:30 p.m. Saturday. A despondent man had gotten inside the fence that surrounds the tower and climbed about 60 feet up the tower.
After devising a strategy, Fremont County Sheriff Deputy Rick Cross and Canon City Firefighter Ron Cook used rappelling gear to climb to the man. ...
