Money isn't everything. Just ask the winners of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund competition, who say the industry recognition and mentoring they get are more important than the sizable grant checks they receive.
"What the award meant for me was the exposure. Even before winning the award, to be one of the 10 in the group, the exposure was invaluable," says men's wear designer Thom Browne, a 2005 runner-up and a contender for 2006 Menswear Designer of the Year.
