Na'ilah Suad Nasir and Jasiyah Al-Amin have illuminated some of the complexities of Muslim identity in America (Change, March/April 2006). They are to be commended for proposing thoughtful recommendations for creating a supportive climate on university campuses. For many years, organizations like the Muslim Student Association have reinforced Muslim identity and helped to transform college campuses. Recently, Muslims have participated in the national campaign for divestment from Israel and vigorously protested American policies following the events of September 11, 2001, particularly the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
