Jun. 5--Replacing the chaos in Iraq with stability is challenging enough. Allegations that the U.S. military is gunning down innocent civilians only make the challenge harder. President Bush and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld must hold our troops accountable -- from the lowest ranks to the highest -- if evidence shows they have deliberately killed innocent Iraqi civilians. The evidence is growing that last November, Marines slaughtered 24 civilians in the town of Haditha. Other incidents of U.S. forces murdering Iraqis also have been reported.
