The Cars, Boston's own new wave heroes, are back.
Well, sort of. The New Cars include only two of the group's five original members, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and guitarist Elliot Easton (singer, guitarist and songwriter Ric Ocasek and drummer David Robinson declined to participate in the reunion; bassist/singer Ben Orr died from pancreatic cancer in 2000).
To build the New Cars, some high-class replacement parts were ordered: frontman Todd Rundgren; bassist Kasim Sultan, a veteran of Rundgren's '70s band Utopia; and drummer Prairie Prince, formerly of the Tubes.
A New Cars CD, "It's Alive," rolls off the assembly line tomorrow, and a tour with ...
