Jun. 5--Two brown, shaggy puppies wiggled and splashed in a mud-brown creek Wednesday, looking happy and ordinary.
They are not.
Called labradoodles, the 13-weekold dogs are the offspring of a purebred Labrador retriever and a purebred standard poodle. They are part of a growing trend in designer dogs -- mixed breeds that have catchy names like puggle (pug and beagle), cock-apoo (cocker spaniel and poodle) and snorkie (schnauzer and yorkie).
The popularity of certain mixes has pushed the price tag for dogs that might otherwise have been considered valueless.
