China's central bank reportedly to issue electronic payment license in 2006

Shanghai. June 6. INTERFAX-CHINA - The People's Bank of China (PBC), the country's central bank, will soon issue a new policy to restrict the operation of electronic payment companies, and will likely issue licenses to Chinese online payment service providers by the end of 2006, a domestic newspaper reported.

An official from PBC information would not comment on this issue when contacted by Interfax on Tuesday saying that the central bank currently had no schedule for issuing new measures or licenses.
