British uproar.
Since their inception, the Commission's plans to regulate the vitamin market have sparked controversy in the United Kingdom, by far the EU country where food supplements (primarily vitamin capsules) are most popular. A third of all British women and a quarter of men take health food supplements - a market estimated to be worth euro 490 million a year.
The British companies that brought the court case had argued that the new rules are too restrictive and would endanger the free market and threaten up to 5,000 products in the UK. They also said the measures to approve supplements that are not on the list - which involve scientific ...
