The parties to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change reaffirmed their commitment to its targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions on 26 May and their determination to set new objectives for the period beyond 2012, this in spite of the many sceptics seeking to undermine the Protocol. Meeting under the aegis of the United Nations in the German city of Bonn from 17 to 26 May, experts focused their efforts on the drafting and level of further emissions reduction targets for industrialised countries, emission reductions due to logging in tropical forests and the timetable and framework for future negotiations.
