Mexico's state oil company Pemex could end up owning part of the 1 billion cubic foot per day (7.5 million ton per year) LNG receiving terminal that state utility Electricity Federal Commission (CFE) aims to build at Manzanillo on Mexico's Pacific Coast.
CFE has handled the project on its own so far, and it has indicated that part of the reason was a desire to get free of Pemex's monopoly hold over gas transportation.
Nonetheless, Mexican Energy Secretary Fernando Canales told WGI on the sidelines of the recent 15th Annual Latin American Energy Conference in La Jolla, California that Pemex could take a 30% stake in the terminal, under a scheme that would ...
