Eugene Applebaum is hoping the $2.5 million gift he and his wife Marcia made to William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak will help the region with its economic turnaround.
"We can have a reputation for being leading-edge in health care,'' the Arbor Drugs Inc. founder said.
"This will bring jobs to Michigan and people to fill those jobs.''
The couple's gift helped to fund a $4.5 million surgical learning center that's expected to draw surgical teams from around the country - and the globe - to learn advanced robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
