Bill Frisell plays guitar like an electrocuted dreamer. He sounds like he's sleepwalking through surreal terrain, his languid tempos pulling along whole scenes from la la land.
But this makes its own kind of sense, especially in an era of hyperactive stress and overtaxed lifestyles. The idea is less hurry for more gain, feeling out the roots that sustain life, without shortchanging the imagination or stylistic diversity.
