St. Luke Hospitals leaders balked at attempts by the Health Alliance to make it a for-profit operation and were actually maneuvering to leave the partnership last fall, months before Christ Hospital announced it was bolting from the Alliance.

That's according to court documents filed in litigation over the hospitals' attempts to sever ties with the Health Alliance, a coalition formed 12 years ago to cut costs and eliminate duplication among the five hospitals and a doctors group that constituted its membership.
