WASHINGTON _ In all the years of weapons building in the Cold War it never seems to have occurred to anyone to ask: How are we going to get rid of all this stuff if peace ever comes?
It is a sad irony, but weapons themselves today are probably as dangerous and threatening a problem as the world has. Trying to get rid of them is turning out to be a nightmare.
Despite signed treaties, both the United States and Russia continue to have thousands of strategic nuclear weapons in place, still aimed at targets in the other country.
