From being one of the towns comprising historic Tondo Province during the Spanish era, Rizal Province has grown into one of the country's centers of economic growth and development. Created in 1857 as the Politico-Military District of Morong, it was renamed Rizal Province in honor of the national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal by the first Philippine Commission on June 11, 1901, through Act No. 137, on the proposal of Dr. Trinidad H. Pardo de Tavera.
