But not on this day.
In a game that featured the major league debut of Jon Lester, a 4-hour, 47-minute rain delay and free hot dogs for the most loyal of patrons at Fenway Park, the Red Sox dropped a 7-4 decision to the Texas Rangers last night. Lester ended up with a no-decision in a laborious 4 1/3 innings that required 102 pitches, a relatively grueling stretch of work for relatively little payback.
But then, that's what this entire day was about.
"The Rangers had to do it, too," Red Sox skipper Terry Francona said following his team's third defeat in the last five games. "It's part of the job description sometimes."
