OAKLAND, Calif. _ Most folks don't move here from San Francisco to spiff up their image.
But most folks aren't like Jerry Brown.
The former California governor and presidential aspirant last month plunked down $493,000 for a shabby warehouse in a funky waterfront neighborhood for a combination home, political headquarters and studio for a syndicated two-hour daily radio talk show.
``It's a strategic location, and it embodies the spirit of `We the People' in a way that my firehouse in Pacific Heights does not,'' Brown said, referring to the present home of the political organization he launched as part of his 1992 presidential campaign.
