Until recently. free enterprise was not a commonly taught subject in Israel's classrooms. As the rise of Zionism was so closely intertwined with socialism, generations of Israelis have grown up with an abundance of exposure to the values of a collective society - with the egalitarian kibbutz way-of-life considered an ideal - and often without any introduction to the basics of capitalism.
