Jun. 15--Expect a quieter July Fourth this year. Fireworks won't be a part of the celebrations -- at least, not legally. Because of the severe drought, Collin County on Wednesday banned the discharge of all fireworks by individuals. Professional fireworks shows are exempt.
This is the first Independence Day that Collin County residents won't be able to light a firecracker or launch a bottle rocket, officials said. Denton and Tarrant counties also have banned fireworks use by individuals. Dallas County does not allow fireworks in cities but has no restrictions in unincorporated areas.
