As U.K. commercial broadcaster ITV enters the kids' channel market, it'll aim to be considered "fashionably late," rather than "behind the times." CITV, the new digital children's channel--which launched in five million homes on free-to-air digital platform Freeview last month--entered into a congested market of 21 tyke-geared channels.
The children's market in the U.K. is currently dominated by the BBC (which launched kid-centric CBBC and the younger-skewing CBeebies four years ago), Nickelodeon (with whom ITV failed to reach third party negotiations), Cartoon Network and Disney (which launched the Disney Channel a decade ago).
