Introduction
The reactions of secondary amines with LiAl[H.sub.4] have been studied extensively (1-4). Several tetrakis(amido)aluminate complexes of the type [[L.sub.2]Li][Al[([NR.sub.2]).sub.4]] (L = electron-pair donor ligand) (1, 2) as well as the intermediate lithium amidohydridoaluminates formed in this process, e.g., [[[H.sub.3]AlN[(Si[Me.sub.3]).sub.2]Li[([Et.sub.2]O).sub.2]].sub.2] (3) and [Li[(THF).sub.4]][HAl[(N[Ph.sub.2]).sub.3]] (4), have been structurally characterized. Aluminum-nitrogen cage compounds of the type [(HAlNR).sub.n] (imidoalanes) may be prepared by treatment of primary amines with MAl[H.sub.4] (M = Li, Na) in a 1:1 molar ratio in ...
