The pottery from pit 1 at Tsoungiza, one of the largest individual deposits of Mycenaean ceramics ever completely analyzed, is important to the study of chronology and stylistic development, issues of ceramic ecology (i.e., patterns of household acquisition, use, and discard of pottery), and broader questions of pottery production and consumption relating to social and economic organization. The circumstances of its deposition and the other artifacts associated with it (broken ground stone tools, animal bones) leave little doubt that it represents household rubbish.
