Despite the opposition of top Bush administration officials, a key Senate Republican chairman and other senators on Tuesday seemed keen to pursue legislative fixes to curtail gasoline price "gouging" and market manipulation.

A day after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said it found little evidence of price manipulation, Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) said he was drafting legislation to ban price gouging.
