Beaches in the North East are the most improved in the country, according to a new survey.
The number of beaches that have passed tough cleanliness tests have hit a record high with a 69% increase in the beaches passing the tests carried out by the Marine Conservation Society.
Of the 66 beaches sampled by the MCS, 44 were recommended in their Good Beach Guide for their high water quality as opposed to 26 in 2005.
