Maria hasn't smiled in a month. Not even when her terrier rushes around in circles trying to bite his tail. Not even when her boyfriend lip-synchs to the Spin Doctors. Either of those things used to set her to howling, but lately she just wants to stay in her room and sleep, and it's a struggle for her to get up in the morning and go to school.
Andy, on the other hand, is always smiling. He talks nonstop, and his energy is endless. He jumps into things without a second thought--he drives too fast, drinks alcohol, and can't wait to bungee jump. At night his mind races over the next day's activities, until he finally falls into a restless sleep.
