FITCHBURG -- For cyclists looking to pedal off the beaten path, the city's first mountain bike trail opens Saturday.
The Quarry Ridge Mountain Bike Trail at the Quarry Ridge recreation area in Fitchburg includes an "easy" six-tenths of a mile loop and a more difficult nine-tenths of a mile loop, said Ed Bartell, Fitchburg city forester and interim parks director.
The trails aren't long distances, but they should be fun and challenging, he said. "It's the closest official off-road bicycle trail for riders in the Fitchburg-Madison area."
