North America claims to have the tallest conifers in the world. The Sitka spruce grows to a height of 55m to 80m, and its estimated life span is 700 to 800 years.
The highest Sitka spruce to date is found on Vancouver Island, just off the coast of British Columbia. It holds the record for the tallest tree in Canada, measuring a lofty 95m from base to tip.
Throughout the world, landscapers use conifers to add interest and diversity to the garden. They come in a multitude of different shapes, like the tall pencil varieties or the spreading saucer shapes.
