Jun. 19--HARLINGEN -- The symptoms slip into a woman's life unannounced, just when she might expect to feel happy and fulfilled. Suddenly, a new mother feels listless, empty, inexplicably sad. She doesn't feel connected to her newborn. She's overwhelmed, hopeless, maybe suicidal. Friends or family say it's just the "baby blues," but it persists and worsens. Many women don't realize something is wrong when they first show signs of postpartum depression.
