Cape Town - Airports Company South Africa (Acsa), the state-owned airport operator, planned to participate in strategic airport expansions in western and eastern Africa to help improve the interconnectivity of African regions and prevent unnecessary European stopovers, the company said yesterday.
Its intentions follow news that Acsa has been short-listed as one of three bidders for a contract to operate Nigeria's fastest-growing airport, Nnamdi Azikiwe, in Abuja. The move could position the South African company to play a key role in a west African airport hub.
