Jun. 20--Less than an hour after a double bogey on the 18th hole ruined his chance to be a U.S. Open champion, Scotland's Colin Montgomerie still had his wry sense of humor. When a reporter asked him to talk about the last hole, Montgomerie opted for a self-deprecating wisecrack: "The last hole I played was 17 actually, so that was good," he said, eliciting laughs from the crowd. "Seventeen was a drive outright and a 5-iron through the trees and a 40-foot putt. That was the last hole of golf I played."
