z The cost of the 10-year National Programme for NHS IT is estimated at [pounds sterling]12.4bn, a National Audit Office (NAO) report has found.
This figure includes the initial [pounds sterling]6.2bn spent on fixed-price contracts, and wider elements such as running costs and training.
Recently, a figure of [pounds sterling]20bn has been referred to as the total cost, but the NAO says this is total NHS spend on IT over 10 years, not just on the programme.
