Jun. 21--Alabama is one of five states without a uniform, statewide building code, but that could change if a commission meeting Thursday in Montgomery recommends that the Legislature enact one.

Not everyone is happy with the idea, however, especially if it affects residents in rural areas.

Decatur Building Department Director Jimmy Brothers, one of 12 members on the Alabama Building Code Study Commission, said he would represent the Alabama League of Municipalities during the meeting.
