Jun. 21--TOKYO -- The revelation that Bank of Japan Gov. Toshihiko Fukui profited handsomely from his investment in the so-called Murakami Fund has drawn strong criticism from opposition parties.

Fukui is under fire for his [yen]10 million investment, which has since more than doubled, and for not withdrawing it after he became central bank governor.

Though Fukui has said he would donate the principal sum and profits, opposition party lawmakers claim he bears a heavy responsibility and that his suitability for the post should now be questioned.
