CHICAGO, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago Stock Exchange today announced it has already broken its all-time record for annual share volume, exceeding the previous record of 3,320,219,000 shares set in 1987.  As of 2 p.m. today, 3,330,000,000 shares had traded hands this year. 
The exchange also is close to breaking its record for the number of trades.  The record, established last year, was 5,821,792.
