*** A Defense Hardware Purchasing and Contracting Agency will be set up and start working for all defense agencies in 2007, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said at a news conference in Vladimir on May 12.
The Federal Defense Hardware Contracting Service may be made independent of the Defense Ministry when the agency is set up, but will stay intact and supervise the agency, he said.
The Defense, Interior and Emergencies ministries and other armed structures will continue acting as purchasers and consumers of defense hardware, Ivanov said.
