Brandy(*) is the most popular distilled spirit sold in Mexico. It even tops rum and tequila as the spirit of choice. More than 1 0 million cases of brandy and cognac, valued at about $580 million, were sold in Mexico in 1991. U.S. brandy exporters, who until now had little share of the Mexican market, may see their sales rise in coming years as consumers south of the border become more familiar with the U.S. product.
Mexican consumers are big supporters of their domestic brandy industry. Imports of brandy and cognac account for a only a small share of the total market. In 1991, brandy and cognac imports were the equivalent of 135,000 cases, with cognac imports ...
