The issue of how to provide those in need with comprehensive, costeffective mental health benefits is expected to loom large in the upcoming battle over national health reform, according to sources familiar with mental health coverage.
Dr. John McIntyre, president of the American Psychiatric Association, Washington, applauded President Clinton's efforts to include the costs of mental health benefits in a comprehensive benefit package, but said the administration's recent backpedaling on providing such benefits is a "mistake."
