By car: From Phoenix, drive north on I-17 toward Flagstaff and exit at State Route 179. Continue northward on Route 179 into the heart of Sedona, a two-hour drive. (NOTE: On your way, take the time to stop along I-17 north of Camp Verde to see Montezuma Castle, an ancient Indian cliff dwelling.) From Flagstaff, travel 40 miles south via I-17 and State Route 179 or travel south on State Route 89A through scenic Oak Creek Canyon, a 28-mile trip.
