Junin is located near Laguna de Gomez and Laguna Mar Chiquita (not to be confused with Mar Chiquita in Cordoba Province and Laguna Mar Chiquita north of Mar del Plata). Its origins go back to the Fuerte Federacion built in 1828. The town is served by F.C. General Bartolome Mitre railroad, and there are important rail workshops. It is an industrial town and the center of a rich agricultural region.
