Entre Rios means "between rivers", an apt description of this province's location between the Rio Uruguay and the Rio Parana. To the east, the Rio Uruguay forms the border with Uruguay; the Rio Parana forms the border with Santa Fe Province to the west, and to the south with Buenos Aires Province. To the north is Corrientes Province, the border formed by a series of smaller rivers. Other important rivers are the Rio Gualeguaychu and the Rio Gualeguay. The terrain in Entre Rios Province is uniformly flat, except for the so-called "Cuchillos" ("Knives") in the center.
