Gualeguay was founded in 1783 by Tomas de Rocamora. It is located in the southern part of the province on the Rio Gualeguay, about 30 km north of its junction with the Rio Parana. The swampy area along the Rio Parana starts nearby, just south of Puerto Ruiz, 8 kmsouth. Gualeguay is a quiet provincial town which offers good fishing in the Rio Gualeguay and Rio Cle. Most of the major streets are tree-lined.
