Introduction
When traveling between Auckland and Wellington, many tourists (and locals alike) blast through the center of the North Island, taking SH1 from top to bottom. There's plenty of reason not to, though, and part of it is that you'll miss the region called Manawatu. When you're in France and want to know how the everyday folks live, you don't go to Paris. Likewise, when you're inNewZealand and want to know about real Kiwi life, get out of the main centers.
