Odessa American, Texas, Ken Brodnax column: So those tricky plays on words just keep coming.

Jun. 28--OK, just to set the record straight, last Sunday's analogies and metaphors from high school students were forwarded to me by John Laird, one-time Odessa American sports editor who now is an

editorial page editor in Vancouver, Wash.

Laird sent a slightly huffy

e-mail after being referred to as "a fellow wordsmith" in the

column. I replied by saying that I would have used his name, but I didn't know whether there was anyone alive in Odessa who would remember him.

But I have to give credit where credit is due. Readers loved the "word games" that Laird supplied. Plus I got a quick column out of the deal.
