* History
It's difficult to believe that Johnson City was not named for its most famous son, Lyndon Baines Johnson. But, in fact, it was named for his ancestors, Tom and Sam Ealy Johnson, LBJ's great-uncle and grandfather.
Lyndon Johnson was actually born near Stonewall, a small rural community a short distance from Johnson City that is now part of the LBJ Ranch District of the National Historical Park. But his family moved to town early in his life. The son of a school teacher and politician, he followed in both parents' footsteps, first becoming a school teacher and then the ultimate politician.
